Sunday Workshop – Big Cats – 3rd September 2017
The big cats of Africa and Asia are iconically beautiful animals whose grace and power make them one of my most favourite animal subjects. I am fascinated by the mysterious aloofness of all of the big cats, from a pride of lions to the solitary leopard, and I really admire their skill as the supreme animal predator. In this one day workshop we will focus entirely on the big cat and I will share the ideas and tips that I employ when painting these felines, such as how to capture the rough silkiness of fur and how to capture the expression in the eyes.
The day will start at 10.00am so please arrive around 9.50am. The morning session will start with a practical one hour demonstration in which I show you some of the techniques I use. Please feel free to ask any questions! You will then begin painting yourself and I’ll be on hand to help you create an image of a big cat within it’s natural setting.
A hot fish and chip lunch (unless you request otherwise) will be provided at 1pm and, after lunch, we will continue with our painting. The day will finish around 4.30pm. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
The workshop will be held at my light and airy studio located at Paul Apps Fine Art, 7-9 Marine Walk Street, Hythe, Kent CT21 5NW. Local paid parking is available, free parking is possible in nearby streets about a five minute walk away from the gallery. The day is designed for oil or acrylic painters and canvas paper, boards and table easels are provided for use. Please bring your own painting equipment (e.g. brushes) and paints. Oil painters, please use Zest-it and not spirits to clean your brushes as this avoids the smell of white spirits/turps which some find unpleasant!
The day costs £90.00 and, owing to space, numbers are very limited. Book early to avoid disappointment.
